“Anything Goes” is a brand new special gala weekend for the WSR in 2002. The event will feature an intensive timetable, worked by a host of heritage diesel locomotives, together with our diesel railcar. Basically, if it is capable of turning a wheel under its own power it is likely to be used in some way…! Variety is definitely the key, so come along and see just what the WSR has to offer………
It is anticipated that locomotives from the list below will be rostered to work over the weekend:-
Steam
Diesel
[N.B. All events listed are subject to availability]
A comprehensive timetable will be in operation on both days of the Gala; for full details click here. A complete working timetable - which will include full details of all train workings and the locomotive and coaching set diagrams - will be available approximately seven days in advance of the event from Minehead Station, priced £2.00 and a SAE.
In addition to the services printed in the main timetable, on Saturday 11 May there will be a ‘Fish & Chip’ Special, hauled by a heritage diesel locomotive. This train departs from Bishops Lydeard at 7.00pm. The cost, which includes the train fare and food (the latter served on the outward journey to Minehead) is Adult & senior Citizen - £10, Child - £5. Arrival back at Bishops Lydeard is scheduled for 10.30pm. Rover Tickets are NOT valid on this train. PRE-BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL - please contact Minehead Station.
On BOTH days there will be a shuttle service between Bishops Lydeard and Norton Fitzwarren. In the morning this will use a diesel railcar, and in the afternoon will be ‘top-n-tailed’ by two heritage diesel locomotives.
NORMAL Rover Ticket prices apply, which represent excellent value for money considering what is on offer! A one day Family Rover, for example, costs just £26.00 - whilst Adult Rovers cost £17.90 (both days) or £10.50 (one day).
Buffet and bar facilities will be available on ALL train services during the weekend, serving a range of hot and cold food, tea & coffee and a range of other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
On all three days, there is a frequent First Southern National bus service between Taunton and Bishops Lydeard Station [Service 28A, Friday & Saturday; Service 928, Sunday] with extra services over the Gala weekend. WSR tickets are NOT valid on these services, except return tickets to Taunton issued by Booking Offices at Minehead, Dunster, Blue Anchor, Watchet and Williton. Full timetable details available direct from First Southern National - 01823 272033.
