WSR Locomotive Restoration Project

WSR Locomotive Restoration Fund

Launched on 5th May 2017, by the Chairs of both the West Somerset Railway PLC (WSR PLC) and the West Somerset Railway Association (WSRA),  The West Somerset Railway Locomotive Restoration Fund is an appeal to support the long term security of locomotives operating on the WSR.

The appeal is centered on  the provision of three ex GWR locomotives of complementary sizes – Large Prairie 4110, owned by the WSR plc, and two locomotives owned by the WSRA, Small Prairie 4561 and Manor Class 7821, “Ditcheat Manor”.

The Fund is supported by fundraising activities and donations. To find out how you can contribute visit our Support page or to make a donation visit our DONATIONS PAGE

Small Prairie 4561 is the first priority of the fund, and restoration is already underway.  The bulk of the work is being done at our WS Restoration works at Williton, by a team of staff, volunteers and apprentices.  The aim is to complete the restoration and return 4561 to traffic by 2021, to fit the requirements of the WSR PLC's locomotive policy for the railway.

Restoration of Large Prairie 4110 is being undertaken by volunteers at Minehead and will run alongside restoration of the WSRA owned locomotives at WS Restoration Williton.

The WSR Locomotive Restoration Fund will support all three.
