Month: January 2018

The WSRA was asked by the team of volunteers restoring two open wagons at Washford if it could hep with funding for tarpaulins to preserve the restoration work and secure loads when running as part of an authentic WWII freight train. The tarpaulins were to be authentic dark olive 16 oz Cotton Duck.
The WSRA was pleased to help and a crowdfunding webpage was immediately set up and fundraising for the £400 needed began. The response was overwhelming and the required amount was raised in less than 48 hours. A truly great achievement by supporters of the West Somerset Railway.

The tarpaulins are being ordered and will be on display on the newly restored open wagons in the Military freight train running at the Spring steam Gala.

The WSRA Trustees are pleased to support the Directors of our trading subsidiary WSRA Promotions Ltd, in their decision to promote Ryan Pope to Engineering Foreman and Don Wood to Production Manager.

Ryan Pope started work for West Somerset Restoration as an Engineering Apprentice. He quickly excelled in his training and was offered a full time position at the end of the Apprenticeship. Since then Ryan has grown rapidly in both knowledge and experience, including fully restoring his own Andrew Barclay 1219 “Caledonian Works”. Together with Don Wood who is an experienced engineering production manager, Ryan will manager the day to day operations of West Somerset Restoration.

The final 50:50 club draw for 2017 has now taken place and cheques are on their way to the lucky winners. As usual the winning ticket numbers can be viewed at https://www.wsra.org.uk/fifty-fifty-club/#results.

Over the year the WSRA 50:50 club generated £8726, of which half was given back in prizes and the remainder was a donation to the WSRA, after club admin costs were accounted for. Participation in the club has increased significantly over the year, as we have dealt with the past issues and moved forward. The lowest month was February when just £536 was paid into the club, but by December that had increased to £863.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who participates in the WSRA 50:50 club and if you’re not yet a member, you can download an application form HERE.

More members = a higher prize fund and more donations for the WSRA.
