Supporting Steam Locomotives on the West Somerset Railway

CNV00070 (002) WEB

The West Somerset Railway Locomotive Restoration Project supports the long term security of locomotives operating on the West Somerset Railway.  The project and associated WSR Locomotive Restoration Fund are for the restoration of locomotives intended for use or already in use on the West Somerset Railway and which comply with the fund guidelines set by the Trustees.

The priorities are two WSRA owned ex GWR locomotives.  Firstly Small Prairie 4561 followed by Manor Class 7821 "Ditcheat Manor".

Restoring Small Prairie 4561

WSRA owned Small Prairie 4561 has been out of service since 1998.

It's at WS Restoration at Williton where staff and volunteers are getting on with the first phase of the restoration aimed at achieving a rolling chassis.  The new cylinder blocks are back on site and work is steadily progressing on the loco.  Follow progress on the blog
